NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around Dr. Seuss's birthday. During the week of March 3-7, Sunset View students participated in the National “Read Across America” program. Children read during their library period throughout the week and their accumulated minutes were added to our Sunset View total and sent to the “Read Across America” site.
Throughout the week students participated in many Dr. Seuss activities. The library sponsored a Draw the Cat in the Hatcontest. The winning illustrators are featured on this page. We recieved many wonderful illustrations and the judges had a very difficult time choosing the winners! Nice job Sunset View illustrators!
Each student had a chance to vote on their favorite Dr. Seuss book. Sunset View's winner was Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat was a close second. We used this information to create a pictograph on the library corral wall. Come by and see all of the results!
Creating rhyming poems, choral reading and sharing all of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories rounded out the activities throughout the week. Next week we will continue honoring Dr. Seuss in the library with an oobleck activity. It will be oodles of messy, scientific fun!!!
